Chuck Charles "My TV Friends"

NOTHING FOUND!

Lyrics

I spend my time with some people
They aren't my family
All the same folks that we know
Who just appear on TV

I shouldn't get so happy just because the weekend ends
But that means I'm reunited with my TV friends

Gomer and Kramer are weirdos
They act so stupidly
But if they both were your bros
You'd call them up constantly

That's the reason that I like it when the summer ends
Cause Fall's the season when I find my TV friends

I know a guy - every time - he says with pride
"I don't have a TV"
But except: PBS" what a mess
You that's not enough for me

On sitcoms and on Mad Men
Cop shows and reality
We both know more about them
Than I know you & you me

I come alive after five when the workday ends
That's the time when I come home to my TV friends

Story Behind The Song

The lyrical germ for this one is when I noticed a good friend having a "Kill Your TV" sticker on his car; he's not normally a pretentious type but I think a lot of people think they "should" read more and "should" watch TV less. Meanwhile I think 5 of the best 10 people in my life are actually just tv characters (Ted Lasso, to name one.) Normally, one would think I'm trying to be facetious or having a more satifcal take with lyrics like these, but honestly I really do love my TV friends without a trace of irony.

We didn't want to use it for sampling/royalty reasons but the bassline can easily be swapped out for the famous funky "Barney Miller" bassline on the opening. Keep your eyes on that.

The end of the bridge with the free-jazz horns kills me every time.
